paint pots - a sacred site

the stoney indians felt that a great animal spirit lived here at the paints pots. they used to come here to gather the ochre clay which they fired and turned into a powder. they mixed this powder with fish oil or animal grease and used it to paint their bodies, their teepees, and for their rock paintings. It is said that the stoney's could hear the sound of a flute or great warrior songs in the gurgling sounds of the water in the creek.

the sweet, sweet smell of the cottonwood trees in springtime

the rich red resin from the buds of the cottonwood trees can be used to make an incredibe healing salve sometimes called balm of gilead. My friend Linda Buffy makes a great one which she calls red bud salve. She collects the cottonwood buds herself and combines them with extravirign olive oil, st. john's wort, frankincense, and essential oil of birch - it is an excellent natural salve for skin irritation, wound healing, inflammation old injury pain & dry skin (eczema, psoriasis).
