blurry bear ~
It is so exciting to see a bear (from a safe distance) when you are out in their natural habitat that I thought I would post this even though it is a BLURRY BEAR PHOTO. I think this young black bear is standing up because he/she had just heard or caught scent of the three elk we ourselves had just seen walking back into the woods...when you go down in the woods today you're sure to get a surprise...

opening oneself to the road ~
Our path is sometimes rough and sometimes smooth; nonetheless, life is a constant journey. Whether we sleep, eat, dress, study, meditate, attend class—whatever we do is regarded as our journey, our path. That path consists of opening oneself to the road, opening oneself to the steps we are about to take.

as smooth as the river lies against the earth ~
"I have lost, as I have said, some sense of myself. I no longer require as much. And though I am hopeful of recovery, an adjustment as smooth as the way the river lies against the earth at this point, this is no longer the issue with me. I am more interested in this: from above, to a hawk, the bend must appear only natural and I for the moment inseparably a part, like salmon or a flower. I cannot say well enough how this single perception has dismantled my loneliness."

in praise of the evening ~
I am thinking about praise and how praise is something that we are meant to give to our dogs and to our children, but perhaps it is more important to notice how totally, at times, they are already in praise, and in those moments we have nothing to give them at all except for our own awe of them. Just to be in awe can be our highest praise.
